The Bower Bird
( A male satin Bower bird ) TOTALLY random stuff I've collected on the web and doesn't have a place in the jazz guitar, ukulele or main publishing pages on the site.
I remember seeing a this bird on TV years ago. And, it stuck with me. Some of the strangest things get into ones's long term memory. Good for Trivial Pursuit but not much more.
Just like the Bower bird that collects a variety of objects like shells, leaves, flowers, feathers, stones, berries, and even discarded plastic items. A bower's U-shaped nest, a structure of sticks and leaves can include hundreds of these objects. The bird will spend hours carefully sorting and arranging his collection, with each thing in a specific place.
All of this to attract the female Bower bird. The things we do!!!

Here are some links to news and articles that I have collected on standing desks.
My background and initial working life started as an graphic/commercial artist, in the pre-computer, DTP days. You had a movable/adjustable drafting table and a stool for working at a standing height. Did that for 10 years or so before the advent of desktop publishing.
When we went to computers for generating the mechanicals for printing I recommended that we get a desk that would allow an artist to maintain the same working habits that we had with the tradition artist desk/drawing table. I lost out on that argument and we didn't go that route. We went with tradition office desks, the same as of every other office worker. So much for the artist culture.
I spend too much time sitting like most people. I teach private guitar lessons, which is all one-on-one and sitting. Then I'm sitting at the computer, the non teaching time working on my books, web sites and publishing related task at the computer. The only, waking time I'm not sitting is if I'm out putting in some miles racewalking or riding my bike.
I've always wanted to go back that and not have to sit all day long. This is my page of research and building a standing desk before I spend and get an adjustable desk like the GeekDesk below.
December 2011 Update - Sill at the standing desk and love it. Just not adjustable. Really need to get a GeekDesk.
Here is my make shift "standing desk", round one.
Here is my make shift "standing desk", round two. A little storage space under the extensions. Also two inches shorter
